Description: University of Massachusetts students, staff and faculty will join their peers around the country in seeking to raise awareness about global climate change during Focus the Nation, which is being billed as the largest teach-in in history.

More than 1500 schools have joined. The simultaneous teach-in, aims to engage millions of students and citizens in conversation about the pressing topic.

There will be a variety of events held all day on Thursday, January 31st at UMass Dartmouth. The schedule is listed below. All events will be in the Library Browsing Area and are free and open to the public.

This event is sponsored by the Office of Sustainability, MASSPIRG, Social Change Society & Net Impact.

Thursday, January 31st

9:30 Antonio Cabral and John Bullard: Climate Change and Local Action

11:00 John Bullard, president of SEA, former Mayor of New Bedford
will present Al Gore's Climate Slide Show updated with new information from the IPCC

12:30 Chancellor's Climate Commitment Panel: Dave Ferguson, Peter Gagnon, Eric Lyonnais, Rob Darst, Marina Dippel, Susan Jennings
What's UMD doing to be a responsible steward during this time of change?

2:00 pm Faculty Panel on Climate Change: Jerry Blitefield, Cindy Pilskaln, Emily Lilly, Yale Magrass, Adam Sulkowski
Join faculty as they share their disciplinary perspectives on Climate Change.

3:30 Student Panel on Sustainability
What are UMD students doing to address Climate Change? How can you join them?

6-9 PM, The Pachamama Alliance: Awakening the Dreamer, Change the Dream Symposium
The Symposium explores the link between three of humanity's most critical concerns: environmental sustainability, social justice and spiritual fulfillment. Using video clips from some of the world's most respected thinkers, along with inspiring short films, leading edge information and dynamic group interactions, the Symposium allows participants to gain a new insight into the very nature of our time, and the opportunity we have to shape and impact the direction of our world with our everyday choices and action.
