| Description: |
The Honors Convocation is the only opportunity each year for students from all majors, and faculty and staff from all corners of the campus to gather together, and celebrate the achievements of some of our most outstanding students.
The 2007 Honors Convocation will be held May 2, between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm in the Woodland Commons. Refreshments will be served in the lobby after the event. This event will recognize the academic achievement of approximately 80 students: those who have received such special awards as the Waxler Prize for Social Justice, the Michael Dukakis internship, and the Scholar/Athlete award; named merit scholarships that are not limited as to academic area; seniors graduating with the highest GPAs; and nineteen graduating seniors who are completing the UMass Dartmouth Commonwealth Honors program. The student with the winning essay in the Honors Essay competition will read the award-winning piece. Faculty are invited. There is one change from last year: Faculty and Administrators will not be wearing academic regalia, nor will there be a formal procession. Just arrive by 3:00 and take a seat in the area reserved for faculty. We expect about 200 people to attend, including the students and family members. Family are being invited by letters to the students' home addresses. College and/or Department-specific honors-recognition events will also occur. |
