Description: Keynote speakers: Deborah Meier and Kenneth Saltman

This inaugural conference, sponsored by the doctoral students in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies program at UMass Dartmouth, will offer a platform to discuss the role of democracy in education. The keynote address will provide an opportunity for educational researchers and practitioners to engage in dialogue relevant to regional, national and international interests. The conference will offer four primary lenses through which democracy can be explored in contemporary educational discourse and practice:
  1. Education as a democratic ideal
  2. Cultural politics and curriculum
  3. Teachers as transformational leaders
  4. Leadership, management, and policy
As such, the conference will be invaluable for academics, state and district administrators, school building leaders, K-12 teachers and educational policy makers at all levels.
