Description: Darwin Week Celebrations at UMass Dartmouth

Various events open to the Campus will take place during Darwin Week (February 11-15 and 20) to celebrate the "reality and coolness of evolution" (as put it by the students), including:

Competition: Epic Reading of Darwin's On the Origin of Species (1859) and other books, as follows:
  • Monday, Feb 11 at 11am in Library Lecture Hall 206
  • Wednesday, Feb 13 at 11am in Library Lecture Hall 206
  • Friday, Feb 15 at 11:30am in Library Lecture Hall 206
Ten Biology Majors and BioHonors will participate in the out loud reading competition (theatrical performance, Victorian style) of excerpts from Darwin's work: On the Origin of Species (1859), The Descent of Man (1871), The Voyage of the Beagle 1845), and The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals (1872).

Fossils and Skulls Exhibit:
Monday, Feb 11 and Wednesday Feb 13, from 12-2pm in the Campus Center Lobby.
An amazing collection of fossils and skulls to learn about, touch (...gently) and admire.

Excerpts from the Kitzmiller v. Dover trial:
Wednesday, Feb 20 in the Library Grand Reading Room.
The triumph of evolution over Intelligent Design, with co-sponsors and participation of BioHonors, Biology Student Association and UMassD Honors Student Association.
