International Women's Day Speaker
This year’s International Women’s Day speaker is Stephanie Luce. Stephanie Luce is Associate Professor of Labor Studies and has gained national and international recognition for her research on living-wage campaigns and on the impact of globalization on jobs and workers. She earned both her Ph.D. in Sociology and her Master’s degree in Industrial Relations from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. In addition to authoring three books, Dr. Luce has written dozens of articles and research reports. She has served on the staff of a Congressional Committee on Agricultural workers; worked for the Department of Labor; and directed research projects for U.S. unions. She serves on the editorial boards of New Labor Forum and Organizing Upgrade. Outstanding Women AwardsThe UMD Center for Women, Gender & Sexuality is pleased to announce the thirteenth annual Outstanding Women Awards to be held on March 7, 2013 following the International Women's Day Speaker Stephanie Luce. These Awards are to recognize the outstanding contributions of women. The awards will honor women from the UMD community who have made significant contributions that enhance opportunities for achievement for women and promote and provide a supportive climate on campus. NominationsWe will be giving three awards: one to a faculty, one to a staff person and one to a student/alumnus. The nominees can be any woman from the UMD community, including present and past faculty, staff and/or students.
