UMass Dartmouth Homecoming Weekend is Oct. 19, 20, and 21

Weekend to feature Athletic Hall of Fame, Parade, Barbecue, Awards Brunch and more

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth will welcome alumni, family and friends back to campus for Homecoming Weekend 2007 on October 19, 20, and 21. A full schedule of exciting events awaits the hundreds of members of the UMass Dartmouth family expected to attend.

On Friday, October 19th  the 2007 Corsair Hall of Fame Induction and Banquet will take place at Rachel's Lakeside in Dartmouth beginning at 6:30 PM. Five former athletes from UMass Dartmouth representing three different decades from the 1960's through 1990's, make up the inductees into the Corsair Hall of Fame for 2007. The inductees are John E. Kidd '65 (Basketball/Soccer/Track), Mark McIlquham '90 (Swimming), Michael Mulvey '91 (Ice Hockey), Kelly Berger '99 (Basketball/Tennis), and John Barrett - Coach, (Soccer/Swimming/Golf). Also slated for induction is the 1957 Men's Tennis Team. Tickets are $35 and available by calling the Athletic Department at 508.910.6930.

Homecoming Day, Saturday, October 20th  will kick off with a Parents' Brunch in the Homecoming tent located at the Tripp Athletic Center followed by a Parade and Coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. the grills will light up under the tent for the annual BBQ. Sports enthusiasts will be able to choose from several intercollegiate events that day. In addition to the varsity football game where the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs host Nichols College at Cressy Field at noon, alumni and student athletes will be working up a sweat on the field hockey and soccer fields. Later in the day, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, a special dedication honoring Dean of Students Emeritus, Donald C. Howard will take place. The Donald C. Howard Student Leadership Wall highlighting the value of student leadership will be located on the second floor of the Campus Center. The program includes Senator Mark Montigny '84 and will feature the unveiling of a sculpture created in Dean Howard's honor by alumnus Jesse Green '03.

Homecoming weekend comes to a close with the annual Alumni Awards Brunch being held at the University's historic Star Store campus in downtown New Bedford. The 2006 University Service Award will be presented to Donald Ramsbottom of Portsmouth, RI, retired head of the University's Office of Development. Retired textile executive and former Alumni Association Board of Directors member, Donald Taylor '54 of Westport will receive the Alumni Service Award. Retired Engineer and Native American historian, Mr. Randall Pollard '53 of New Bedford will be recognized for personal achievement, and Paul Vigeant '74, Assistant Chancellor of Economic Development will receive the alumni employee award.

This year, the Alumni Association partners with the "Bioneers by the Bay" conference on campus, with a presentation by renowned environmental advocate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on Oct. 18 at New Bedford's Zeiterion Theater; farmers' markets outside the Campus Center; and a film festival in the auditorium. Other weekend activities include a day-long used bike collection coordinated by alumnus David Schweidenback '76 who collects, restores and distributes used bikes to needy families around the globe and a young alumni celebration on Friday night.
