John Oliver, comedian and political commentator from "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," will bring his unique British humor to the UMass Dartmouth Main Auditorium stage on Saturday, February 9 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Oliver and his collaborator Andy Zaltman wrote and starred in "The Department" for BBC Radio 4 where each week they "solved" world problems, as well as "Political Animal" where they linked the satirical material of various stand-ups with sketches that included firing themselves out of a water canon at a crowd of protestors, contracting bird flu and getting into a gun fight with the Queen.
Comedian Rory Albanese, Emmy award-winning co-executive producer at "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," will appear as the opening act. He has been featured on both VH1 and Spike TV and toured with Lewis Black.
Tickets cost $10 for UMass Dartmouth students (with a UMass pass) and $20 for non-students and can be purchased at the Pass Office in the Campus Center or at all FYE locations throughout New England.
The Division of Student Affairs Programming Committee is sponsoring the event. It is the kick-off performance of a series focusing on the 2008 presidential race. For more information, contact the Student Activities, Involvement & Leadership Office at 508-999-8127.
