The world-renowned Spirit of America marching band will perform June 29 at 8 p.m. on UMass Dartouth's Cressy Field. The public is welcome and admission is free.

Spirit of America Band is more than a precision, marching, musical ensemble -- It is a training ground for life, based on the values and characteristics that have made our country great from its very beginning.

From Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Spirit of America marching band has toured both nationally and internationally, from it's hometown in Orleans to Australia and South Korea, performing in parades, field shows, concerts, and wind operas for more then thirty years. Its members are volunteers, ranging from 10 to 60.  The band leads workshops in music and marching, while imparting by example life and leadership skills to thousands of students of all levels and abilities.  The marching band, having won the award for "best representing the spirit of America" at the national 4th of July Parade in Washington DC, has an open invitation to participate in the parade at anytime.   Spirit of America, has competed in two world championships, winning first place in the World Association of Marching Show Bands in 2006 Jeju, Korea and 1st runner up in the World Association of Marching Show Bands in 200 Calgary, Canada.  In addition Spirit of America has been awarded countless prizes and awards over the last quarter of a century.  But the greatest prize of all has been the chance to share their hearts and energy with every audience member and student they meet.  Teaching by example, they encourage young people to stretch beyond their reach, and discover a whole new world of personal and corporate pride, gaining friendships and achievements along the way.

Spirit of America has an active program giving opportunity for young people to join the band.  If you or your young person is interested in joining The Spirit of America Field Band or Winter Percussion Ensemble, feel free to speak with any of the band staff or members after the performance or check out the web site www.spiritofamericaband.org  for contact information.
