SouthCoast COMPEER receives recognition

SouthCoast Compeer at UMass Dartmouth received a Certificate of Achievement from Community Health Network Areas of Greater Fall River and Greater New Bedford "in recognition of your significant contributions to making our community a healthier place to live." UMass Dartmouth-sponsored SouthCoast Compeer is a regional chapter of Compeer International which provides trained volunteer friends and mentors to persons with mental illness.

This award was presented at the 9th Annual Legislative Breakfast held on Friday, October 24, 2008 at White's in Westport.  Accepting the award in the name of SouthCoast Compeer were Dr. Sharon Sousa of the College of Nursing and Dr. Christine Frizzell of the Counseling Department at UMass Dartmouth.

The program director of SouthCoast COMPEER, Cynthia C. Farnham, FHW, LCSW, was also nominated for the National Alliance for Mental Illness of Massachusetts "Heroes in the Fight Awards." Nominees were honored at a breakfast on Thursday, October 23rd, at the Westin Copley Place Boston.
