RunForKrystle Day at UMass Dartmouth Takes Place April 18

Student Athletes Running in Boston Marathon for Krystle Campbell Scholarship Ask University Community to Take Part in Day in Memory of the Former UMass Boston Student

Dartmouth, MA (April 14, 2014) -- Two UMass Dartmouth student athletes, Renee Laurencelle of Tyngsboro, MA, and Eric Karstunen of Pembroke, MA, are running in the 2014 Boston Marathon to raise money for the Krystle Campbell Scholarship Fund. In a university-wide e-mail last Friday, Eric and Renee asked that the students, faculty, and staff join them Friday, April 18, 2014 in showing support for the scholarship and in memory of Krystle Campbell, a former student at UMass Boston who tragically succumbed to injuries in the April 2013 bombings at the Boston Marathon.

Eric and Renee are selling RunForKrystle t-shirts ($10 for students, $25 for faculty and staff) with all the proceeds going toward the scholarship. This Friday, the runners hope the University community will wear the RunForKrystle t-shirts to work and class all day.

"We are writing this letter to seek donations toward this great cause. The university strives to reach out a helping hand and honor the memory of the Boston Marathon victims. Any donation will allow the university to work towards reaching our goal of $60,000," Eric and Renee said in the campus-wide email. "As UMass Dartmouth students, this cause is very important to us. The UMass-wide scholarship fundraiser illustrates our great efforts and support for those whose lives changed forever on April 15, 2013."

The Krystle Campbell scholarship provides monetary support to students across the five campuses of UMass. The scholarship is dedicated to Krystle Campbell, The scholarship was set up by University of Massachusetts Trustee Richard P. Campbell, J.D. Serving as the not for profit partner for the Krystle Campbell Scholarship endowment, the UMass Foundation is responsible for receiving and managing private gifts.
