US News & World Report ranks UMass Dartmouth top New England public university of its kind
U.S. News & World Report's 2006 America's Best Colleges issue has ranked UMass Dartmouth the best public institution of its kind in New England and cited the College of Engineering as having one of the best undergraduate programs among similar universities.

"UMass Dartmouth's reputation for quality continues to be recognized around the country," Chancellor Jean F. MacCormack said. "These high rankings are a tribute to the talent and dedication of our faculty, staff and students. We are especially gratified by the recognition for our nationally accredited College of Engineering, which attracts outstanding teaching and research talent to our campus and every year produces graduates who make a major impact on the New England economy."
Overall, the university was the highest ranked masters level public institution in New England. It was ranked 12th in the entire north region, which also includes New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Washington D.C. UMass Dartmouth has 8,300 students and more than 70 academic programs; conducts nearly $20 million in research; and is deeply engaged in service to the surrounding community.
The magazine ranked the College of Engineering 32nd among masters level schools. The ranking is based on ratings by deans and senior faculty. The College of Engineering has approximately 900 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. The faculty consists of 75 full-time professors with degrees from some of the most prestigious universities in the U.S. and abroad. World class research is conducted in areas such as underwater communication, acoustics, textile materials and technologies, pavement construction materials, antennas and telecommunications, bio-materials and oceanography.
