The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth will welcome alumni back to campus for Homecoming Weekend 2006 on October 13, 14, and 15. A full schedule of exciting events awaits the hundreds of UMass Dartmouth alumni, faculty, staff and friends expected to attend.
On Friday, October 13th the 2006 Corsair Hall of Fame Induction and Banquet will take place at Rachel's Lakeside in Dartmouth beginning at 6:30 pm. Five former athletes from UMass Dartmouth representing four different decades from the 1960's through 2000, make up the inductees into the Corsair Hall of Fame for 2006. The inductees are: John Pacheco '63 (baseball, basketball, soccer), Mark Crowther '90 (baseball), Sheila Edwards '92 (track and field, field hockey), Keith Rose '99 (track and field) and Stefan Pagios '00 (basketball). Also slated for induction is the 1976 women's field hockey team. Tickets are $35 and available by calling the Athletic Department at 508.910.6930.
Homecoming Day, Saturday, October 14th will kick off with a Parents Brunch in the Homecoming tent located at the Tripp Athletic Center followed by a parade and coronation of the Homecoming king and queen. From 11am to 4pm, the grills will light up under the tent for the annual BBQ
and class reunions
. Sports enthusiasts will be able to choose from several intercollegiate events that day. In addition to the varsity football game, where the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs host Salve Regina at Cressy Field at noon, alumni and student athletes will be working up a sweat on the volleyball court and lacrosse fields.
Homecoming Weekend comes to a close with the annual Alumni Awards Brunch being held in the Campus Center Cafe from 10am to 12:30pm The 2006 University Service Award will be presented to the family of the late Cecil M. Lopes III. State Representative Michael J. Rodrigues. '83 will receive the Alumni Service Award. Mr. Kevin Santos '81 will be recognized for personal achievement, and Christina Bruen will receive the alumni employee award. The morning will also include a special tribute to former Director of Alumni Relations Donald Berube '84.
Other weekend activities include an alumni-led shoreline cleanup on Buzzards Bay; a day-long used bike collection
by alumnus David Schweidenback '76 who collects, restores and distributes used bikes to needy families around the globe; reunion events for the Class of '51 and the Class of '86; and a young alumni celebration.
