A powerful lesson of reconciliation April 8 at Carney Library
Linda Biehl of the Amy Biehl Foundation to be joined by man convicted of killing her daughter in South Africa. Presentation in Library Browsing Area 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Linda Biehl, co-founder and director of the Amy Biehl Foundation in the U.S. and the Amy Biehl Foundation Trust in South Africa, will speak in the Library Browsing Area on April 8, from 1:30 p.m to 3 p.m. about her daughter Amy's life and death in South Africa. Amy Biehl was a 1993 Stanford graduate who, while on a Fulbright to study the role of women and gender rights in South Africa, was killed by a group of young black South Africans who were fighting to end apartheid.
The four men who were convicted of the killing were ultimately released through South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The Biehl family, in the spirit of their daughter's fight for human rights, did not oppose amnesty, but rather offered their support for their daughter's killers and challenged them to join with them in continuing Amy's work. Linda Biehl will be joined April 8 by one of the young men on April 8.
There will be a reception following the presentation in Room 115 of the Charlton College of Business.
