Michael T. Klare, famed author, political correspondent, and activist, will give a lecture at UMass Dartmouth March 3
Klare will speak about foreign policy, fossil-fuel reliance, and the dire need for alternative energy, in addition to promoting his new book, Rising Power, Shrinking Planet: The New Geopolitics of Energy.
Klare will speak about foreign policy, fossil-fuel reliance, and the dire need for alternative energy, in addition to promoting his new book, Rising Power, Shrinking Planet: The New Geopolitics of Energy. Klare will give the lecture from 12:30-2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3 in the browsing area of the Claire T. Carney Library.
A Five College Professor of Peace and World Security Studies, Klare has received worldwide acclaim for his books and magazine and journal articles centered on foreign affairs, global dependency on petrochemicals, the dangerous intertwining of the two. His new book discusses how energy acquisition shapes international relations and the ways alliances are forged and ended, all in the quest for staking energy claims. Klare has also written the now prophetic Blood & Oil: The Dangers and Consequences of America's Growing Dependency on Petroleum (2004), Resource Wars: The New Landscape of Global Conflict (2001),and Rogue States and Nuclear Outlaws (1995).
In addition, Klare has appeared in such prestigious publications as Newsweek, The Nation, Scientific American, Harper's, World Policy Journal, Technology Review, Third World Quarterly, and International Security.
Klare holds a M.A. from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from the Graduate School of the Union Institute. He also serves as Defense Correspondent for The Nation magazine and is on the Board of Directors for the Arms Control Association, Human Rights Watch, and the National Priorities Project.
