Launched last month, UMassD Mobile can be found at mobile.umassd.edu and provides news, events and other information about UMass Dartmouth to mobile devices users.
Mobile devices will receive video feeds of the May 21 graduate commencement and May 22 undergraduate commencement, at which more than 2,000 students will be receiving degrees. Among the highlights of the videos will be the awarding the University's first law degrees, and commencement addresses by UMass President Jack Wilson and Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Roderick L. Ireland.
Graduates, families and friends with mobile devices will also be able to use a "Lost in the Crowd/Meet Up" feature to pinpoint the locations of each other during and after the ceremony.
UMassD Mobile is the latest component of the University's mobile computing initiative designed to empower students, faculty and staff.
Last month the University also announced the deployment of a long-range wireless system (WiMAX) which provides wireless connectivity up to two miles from campus. The campus will also soon be launching a virtual computer lab that will enable students to remotely access sophisticated software programs that are normally only available in on-campus computer labs.
