Press Release: UMass Dartmouth Electrical and Computer Engineering Associate Professor Dr. Howard Michel Elected as 2014 IEEE President-Elect

Dr. Michel retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1994 after an 18-year career in which he served as a pilot and research engineer. He helped launch seven satellites and directed launch-base tests involving booster, satellite, and range hardware in addition to developing engineering processes for mission-critical Defense Department computer systems.
Prior to his election as President-elect, Dr. Michel served as Vice President of IEEE Member and Geographic Activities in 2011 and 2012, and Region 1 director in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, he chaired the IEEE Public Visibility Committee. He was on the IEEE-USA Board of Directors in 2008 and 2009.
As Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UMass Dartmouth, Dr. Michel's research interests include artificial neural networks and distributed intelligence sensor networks. He also serves as an embedded-instrumentation and system-architecture consultant to the U.S. Navy.
