The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is currently developing an All-Hazards Mitigation Plan for the University. The purpose of this All-Hazard Mitigation Plan is to (1) assist the University in identifying and reducing its risk from natural and human-caused hazards; (2) identify actions that can be taken to prevent damage to property and loss of life, (3) and prioritize funding for mitigation efforts. This project is being funded by a grant allocated by the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency and Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

We are holding a public forum on Tuesday, December 17, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Woodland Commons on the UMass Dartmouth main campus to discuss the development of the Hazard Mitigation Plan, describe the work completed to date, and highlight some of the hazards that could present the greatest risks to campus operations. As part of this meeting, a brief presentation will be shown approximately every 20 minutes.  Members of the planning committee will be available to answer questions and listen to community and stakeholder comments. Display boards will be available to help explain the planning process and summarize the results of the hazard risk assessment undertaken as a key component of the Hazard Mitigation planning effort.

This meeting is designed as an open house where Students, faculty, staff and members of neighboring communities are invited to attend the forum to gather information and provide feedback. If you would like further information, please call 508.999.9180.
