He has accumulated more than 3,500 flight hours in 48 types of aircraft, 700 carrier arrestments and 54 combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He graduated from Astronaut Candidate Training, which included scientific and technical briefings, intensive instruction in International Space Station systems, Extravehicular Activity, robotics, physiological training, T-38 flight training and water and wilderness survival training. Tingle was one of nine applicants chosen from a pool 3,500 for astronaut training.
Students and educators from K-12 schools in surrounding communities have been invited to attend the May 7 event. The event is sponsored by the UMass Dartmouth Alumni Association, UMass Dartmouth's College of Engineering, and University Advancement.
