UMass School of Law Alumna Amber Cohen has been named a 2014 Boston Rising Star by "The National Law Journal" and "The Connecticut Law Tribune". The two legal publications compiled a list of 40 outstanding lawyers in the Boston area, who are age 40 or younger. The honorees were recognized for their expertise, public service in their community, and legal skills. The lawyers chosen have made significant impact in their early careers in legal fields that include intellectual property, private equity, public sector practice, and torts.

Amber Rose Cohen serves as president of Cohen Cleary, practicing family law and criminal defense. For five consecutive years, Cohen has contributed enough volunteer time to earn her the First Justices Award for Pro Bono Publico Excellence given by Boston-area courts. She worked full-time as a paralegal when she earned her degree at the UMass Law in 2008.

UMass Law recently launched a Boston law incubator focused on bringing quality, affordable legal services to clients with unmet legal needs. The "Justice Bridge" incubator is designed to provide quality legal representation to clients who cannot afford traditional market rates, while supporting recent UMass Law graduates who wish to develop solo, small firm or public interest practices.

UMass Law, the only public law school in Massachusetts, was established in 2010 to provide a high quality, affordable legal education focused on creating justice-centered lawyers. UMass Law is especially committed to increasing the diversity of those who practice law in the Commonwealth and encouraging students to become professionally engaged in their community through clinics and internships while they study.
