UMass Dartmouth and Bristol Community College launch "Fast-Track" Program for paraprofessionals

Bachelor's degree program is aimed at paraprofessionals working in the New Bedford and Fall River public schools

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's Division of Professional and Continuing Education in collaboration with Bristol Community College will launch a "Fast-Track" Bachelor of Arts degree for individuals working as Paraprofessionals in the New Bedford and Fall River public schools this summer.

After obtaining an associate's degree at Bristol Community College, employed paraprofessionals will be able to transfer their credits and enroll in a specially designed UMass Dartmouth Bachelor of Arts degree completion program. Students will finish their coursework in three years and obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Humanities and Social Science with a minor in Elementary Education.

Program participants will take two courses each semester.  Courses will be held in the late afternoon at New Bedford Center of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's Division of Professional and Continuing Education Center.  Potential courses include the following for Summer (06): Adolescent Psychology (PSY215) and Civil War and Reconstruction (HST306); Fall (06): Children's Literature (ENL200) and Integrated Instructional Planning (EDU527); and Spring (07): Managing Inclusive Classrooms (EDU547) and Abnormal Psychology (PSY202).
