Last year, the I2V program was held at the Quest Center in New Bedford and was a great success. This year's workshop will be held at the Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Center (ATMC) in Fall River, Massachusetts. The ATMC is co-hosting the event with the Charlton College of Business. Dr. Eileen Peacock, Dean of the Charlton College of Business states: "This workshop will further our efforts to encourage collaboration between UMass Dartmouth's Charlton College of Business and the business community." Dean Peacock asked, "Are you a technologist? an inventor? have entrepreneurial ambition?" She continued, "Then you should plan to attend this introductory workshop on technology entrepreneurship. Save the date!"
Sponsors for this year's event include: Hinkley Allen Snyder LLP, the South Coast Development Partnership, and the Fall River Chamber of Commerce.
The national Invention to Venture series has been established to tap the entrepreneurial ambitions of students and faculty on college campuses across the U.S. Participants discover how to turn an idea into a new product venture, and connect with the local people and programs that can help them turn their ideas into a reality. Since 2001, the Invention to Venture series workshops have provided an exciting opportunity for participants to learn tech entrepreneurship basics, build their networks, and develop plans for moving their ideas forward.
"We work on funding and supporting collegiate entrepreneurship across the country," said Phil Weilerstein, Executive Director of the National Collegiate Inventors & Innovators Alliance. "We think there's particular entrepreneurial promise at UMass Dartmouth and in the surrounding SouthCoast region. Last year's workshop was a success and we're thrilled to be working with UMass Dartmouth to help put together another successful Invention to Venture."
