Press Release: UMass Dartmouth Theatre Company Opens 40th Gala Season with "The Diary of Anne Frank"
Date: October 20, 2006
Department: Theatre Company
Anne Frank did not survive the horrors of World War II, but her words, recorded in an astonishing diary, did. Wendy Kesselman's unflinching adaptation of the Goodrich and Hackett script offers new insight into these captives, revealing them in all their humanity. Their daily struggle with the fear of being discovered and the claustrophobia of their hiding place are poignantly presented through Anne's coming-of-age experiences: her bitterness toward her domineering mother, her burgeoning sexuality, and her determination to be remembered. Her story has inspired millions. The UMass Dartmouth Theatre Company production, directed by Jarrad Nunes, is headlined by Deirdre Staunton as Anne Frank.
"The Diary of Anne Frank" will be performed at 8pm on November 16, 17, 18; and at 2pm on November 19, on the Angus Bailey, Jr. Stage at the UMass Dartmouth Main Auditorium, 285 Old Westport Road, North Dartmouth. Patrons are advised to park in lots 4 & 5. Theatre is handicapped accessible--please call (508)999-8167 for assistance.
