Li and Kasilingam Awarded DURIP Grant to Develop RF/Photonics Testbed

ECE faculty members Drs. Yifei Li and Dayalan Kasilingam were awarded a Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP) grant of $236k from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) to augment the RF/photonics testbed in the ECE department. The PI, Dr. Li works in the field of RF/photonics. RF/photonics is a fast-developing field that combines RF engineering and photonics. Dr. Li is currently supported by DARPA and NRL to develop high dynamic range RF/photonic links and integrated photonic frequency mixers. Co-PI, Dr. Kasilingam is interested in microwave and RF applications such as radar remote sensing and wireless communications. A third faculty member, Dr. Igal Bilik, works on phased array antenna processing. The equipment obtained through this grant will enhance research projects in this area by improving the accuracy of the measurements and by providing the means to test RF components over a wider range of frequencies. The PIs will also introduce a new graduate level course on RF Engineering and Instrumentation which will significantly enhance the PhD in Electrical Engineering program run by the ECE department.
