UMass Dartmouth College of Engineering announces appointments
Dr. Antonio H. Costa, Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth has announced two recent appointments in the College.
Dr. Renate Crawford was named Associate Dean and Thomas Lambalot has been appointed Assistant Dean for Development and External Relations.
Dr. Crawford has been teaching physics at the university since 1996, beginning as a full-time lecturer and advancing to Associate Professor of Physics in 2002. She served as chairperson of the physics department from 2002-2006. She earned her undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees in physics from Kent State University.
In addition to leading student-related functions of the Dean's Office, Dr. Crawford will supervise the College's IMPULSE Program, Freshmen Summer Institute and Cooperative Education and Internship Program.
She will assume her appointment on September 1, 2006.
Mr. Lambalot returns to the university after receiving his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering in 1985 and an MBA from Boston University in 1994. He has served as president and CEO of several venture backed companies including SmartLink Radio Networks and Envoy Networks in Billerica, MA and was president of U.S. operations for Filtronic Comtek, Inc., a publicly traded global leader in the design and manufacture of RF/Microwave sub-assemblies to the mobile communications marketplace.
In his new position, which he started on July 1, 2006, Mr. Lambalot works closely with the dean and vice chancellor for Advancement Jeffrey Wolfman to explore funding opportunities, expand research possibilities within the College of Engineering, and help promote entrepreneurial activities in the region.
