Benefits to Employers
We can do nothing better than reach back and help the next generation along. If you don't feed new ideas from the bottom, you don't build your bench strength and companies need bench strength to survive in the long run.

Co-ops and interns are extremely valuable to both companies and students. Companies get to “try before they buy,” and that's a big benefit to any company. And students get the chance to see what their vocation really consists of before they get too far along their career path.
Senior Program Engineer, Hewlett-Packard
As a current or potential employer, how does UMass Dartmouth's Cooperative Education and Internship Program (CEIP) benefit you?
In the news, we constantly hear about the critical shortage of skilled employees, particularly in the fields of technology, science, math and engineering. And as an employer, you have first-hand experience losing good people and know the work involved in trying to retain good employees or find new ones.
Our program integrates skilled and carefully selected engineering and computer science students into your workplace in a way that makes strong business sense. These students bring current and relevant skills to your work teams, allowing you the organizational flexibility to move other key personnel to more senior tasks.
The typical Co-op/Internship schedule includes the equivalent of 12 months of full-time work. Your company benefits from uninterrupted staffing and our students benefit from the real-world technical challenges afforded them.
We hope and expect that you will treat our students as professionals by giving them genuine challenges and professional respect (which helps young engineers and computer scientists gain self confidence), and by paying them fair wages. We also expect you to encourage their completion of the CEIP and and their degree requirements.
Beyond staffing, you and your organization gain community respect. You will create goodwill as the community learns of your support of local college students. Finally, these coop or intern students, when they become full-time, will be your most loyal and committed employees!
Cooperative/Internship Education provides your organization with an "inside track" for staffing the technical ranks.
