UMass Dartmouth's novel supercomputer takes it to the top of the well-known RC5 cryptography challenge(25-8-2014)

Professor Gaurav Khanna of the Physics Department and Associate Director of the Center for Scientific Computing and Visualization Research (CSCVR) and others have built a novel supercomputer using consumer video-gaming components (over a hundred Sony PlayStations and multiple AMD Radeon graphics-cards) that has enabled the campus' rank to soar to the absolute top of the RC5-72 contest participant list.   [more]

Prof. Amit  Tandon (Physics) receives Office of Naval Research (ONR) funding to model Upper Ocean Processes in the Bay of Bengal(12-11-2013)

Professor Amit Tandon has been awarded a grant for $647,173 by the Office of Naval Research for participating in the 5-year program ASIRI: Air-Sea interactions in the northern Indian ocean -- Research Initiative.  Professor Tandon's research group will be working on coastal and submesoscale process modeling to contribute to a better understanding of the physical processes in the upper ocean in the Bay of Bengal.   [more]
