Increasing population density, closer social contact, and interactions make epidemic control difficult, also leading to significant inter-network interference for wireless body area networks (WBANs). The proposed research will bridge the gap between WBANs and social networks using mobile phones for effective epidemic control and inter-WBANs interference mitigation. Firstly, to achieve effective epidemic control, a critical information network (CINetwork) is proposed. The core of the CINetwork models epidemic spread and identifies critical individuals based on the collected vital signs in real time from human bodies and the social contact information among them. Facilitated by CINetwork, the proposed prediction algorithm will be able to determine quarantine strategies in a cost-effective manner. Secondly, inter-WBANs interference occurs when people have social interactions and communication ranges of their carried wireless sensor devices overlap. Excessive interference will significantly degrade system throughput, reduce system reliability and increase energy consumption. In this research, traditional power control game is modified by using the social-contact-information to detect inter-WBANs interference. The goal of the social-contact-information-based power control game is to simultaneously minimize the overall transmission power and maximize system utility by adjusting the transmission power for each WBAN. Finally, preliminary results were presented for evaluating the performance of the proposed research.
