Topic: “COMBINING MULTIPLE ALGORITHMS FOR ROBUST SEGMENTATION OF INTRAVASCULAR ULTRASOUND (IVUS) IMAGES”
Abstract:
Like many other image segmentation problems, it is relatively easy to train a human to accurately perform IVUS segmentation, but it is very difficult to achieve acceptable segmentation accuracy levels with completely automatic algorithms. Often a given algorithm is capable of accurate segmentation in a small subset of the full set of test images, and another algorithm is capable in another small subset. To improve overall accuracy, we have devised a scheme where an algorithm performs segmentation and at the same time computes a confidence level of its own segmentation. The confidence level is biased such that false positives are avoided. A meta-algorithm is then used to apply one or more algorithms from a library to choose the best segmentation estimate and improve overall accuracy. In this presentation, we describe our recent progress in combining multiple algorithms for robust segmentation of IVUS images.
