Paperbark maple is a deciduous tree growing to 30' tall with a spread of about 25'. Trifoliate, compound leaves are green with a silvery underside. Branching is stiff and twiggy inside. This is one of the last maples to develop color in fall and leaves persist well into winter. The reddish bark of A. griseum exfoliates (peels off) and provides an interesting winter accent in a garden. Hardiness zones 4-8. Specimens are at both the east and west Entrance Gardens and in front of the Department of Public Safety.
