Family: Cercidiphyllaceae

An oval or pyramidal deciduous tree which grows up to 40-60' tall by 35-60' wide. Female trees are spreading while male trees are more upright. Buds red and resemble crab's pincer claw. Leaves are rounded heart shape 2-4" long. Flowers on older wood, not ornamental. Branches droop as tree grows, narrow when young, spread with age. Shade tree used as a �street tree" in suburban areas, also a small lawn tree. Hardy in zones 5-8. Native to Japan. Located in area 23.
