Prunus x yedoensis 'Akebono'
Yoshino cherry Akebono
Rounded shaped deciduous tree with irregular bunches of oval shaped leaves. Flowers are single with five nearly white petals and pinkish bud; in bloom end of April through early May. It is the 2nd cherry to bloom on campus ('Okame' being first). Located on campus along the Cedar Del walkway leading from Group 6 to Ring Road near Cedar Dell. The 301 trees form a charming all�e which makes for a nice stroll. These trees were a gift in 1999 from Lloyd MacDonald. Hardy in zones 6-8.
