Rhododendron catawbiense 'Roseum'

Family: Ericaceae

The catawba rhododendron grows 6' to 12' tall in gardens in 5 to 10 years. 5'' to 6''clusters of lilac purple flowers occur in the spring. This native of North America is an excellent landscape plant. Its evergreen dark green leaves are 3'' to 5'' long. The variety R. catawbiense Albumi is one of the best white rhododendrons for cold climates. Located on campus in the Entrance Gardens and the north end of Dion Building.
