International Students

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth welcomes inquiries from international students.

We take pride in the large number of students here from other countries whose intellectual and cultural contributions to this institution and to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts are recognized and appreciated.

Applicants should address specific questions concerning graduate admissions procedures and visas to the Graduate Studies Office, or visit the International Student & Scholar Center. Questions about curriculum or graduate assistantships should be pursued with the Graduate Program Director for the program in which the applicant is interested. (See listing here.)

International graduate students wishing to transfer to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth from another institution in the United States should have the Transfer Status Verification Form filled out by their present International Student Advisor and returned by that other institution to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Graduate Office. To download the form, click here (pdf).

Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate their proficiency in English. Most do this by taking the TOEFL, which is administered worldwide. This requirement is waived only for those (1) who had English as their primary language of secondary school or college instruction; (2) who have successfully completed a year of advanced secondary school or college/university study in the United States; (3) or who can be present in person to meet with officials of the University at the time of application for admission.
