Assistant/Associate Professor Fisheries Oceanography
The Department of Fisheries Oceanography/SMAST, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, invites applications for two faculty positions to be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.We seek fisheries scientists with research interests in one or more of the following areas: marine ecology, fish stock identification and assessment, population dynamics, climate-related interactions of fish and shellfish populations using biological and oceanographic data, multispecies/ecosystem studies with focus on but not limited to the Northwest Atlantic Ocean continental shelf, or aquaculture. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a graduate research program working with the fishing industry, state and federal governments and other entities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Ph.D. relevant to one of the following research areas: fisheries oceanography, marine and estuarine sciences, marine ecology, population dynamics, or aquaculture.
Experience: Postdoctoral or faculty experience and a corresponding publication and grant record
Other:Strong pedagogical skills, strong written and oral communications skills. Proven ability to work in cooperative research.

Preferred qualifications include experience in one or more of the following: collecting fisheries and oceanographic data, sea time on fishing or government vessels, oceanographic data collection, acoustic techniques, using autonomous or tethered vehicles for fisheries and oceanographic sampling, remote sensing, stock identification using traditional and modern techniques, aging techniques, molecular biology tools, aquaculture, ecosystem modeling, and teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarly accomplishments, a capability to build a strong interdisciplinary research program with extramural support, and a commitment to service.
