19 beautiful tracks from the homeland of Cesaria Evora. This exquisitely packaged recording emphasizes the acoustic music of these West African islands, which sounds like an exotic blend of Brazilian, Portuguese and African styles. Features cuts by Evora as well as a number of her soon-to-be-known compatriates like Maria Alice, Luis Morais, Tito Paris, Bau, Bana, Amandio Cabral, Mindel Band, Simentera and others. A stunning collection with over 70 minutes of music.

Afrolusamerica is the collective noun for regions the Portuguese had occupied in Africa and South America after discovering the Cape Verdian Islands around 1490, and lost again many centuries later. It is an area connected by a mutual language. As much as history and fate of the African nations and the Afrobrazilians may differ, there are, indeed, cross connections in their past and present uniting Africans and Brazilians - sometimes via Portugal. This does not only relate to music but also to lingual and ritual spheres.
Adventures in Afropea 3
Compiled by David Byrne and Yale Evelev
This is the first compilation to represent the different branches of Afro-Portuguese music. The best from Lisbon, Angola, São Tomé, and the Cape Verde Islands. Faraway outposts united by bittersweet sadness and rugged soul, tempered by a uniquely tropical funk, where moody melodies float above dreamy grooves. Here is the archetype of all Afro-Atlantic music - American blues, Brazilian sambas, Cuban rhumbas. These songs simultaneously pierce the heart and inspire release. They're both the illness and the cure.
