ECONOMICS ASSOCIATION HOMEPAGE

The University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth's Economics Association, a student-run organization, realizes that it is part of the dynamic institution of the University, and beyond that, the community of southeastern New England. The importance of Economics in shaping the future of both the University and the area cannot be overemphasized. In line with this, the Economics Association aims to provide all Economics students and interested individuals, with the opportunity to become directly involved in the economic activities of the community and the University outside the classroom. The goals of the Association are to not only assist participants with graduation requirements, graduate school counsel, and work opportunities information, but to also promote an interest in Economics among students. The Association aims to broadcast helpful information and provide interested students with activities including films, speakers, field trips, meetings, and a forum for ideas in the field with which to contribute to the advancement of the science.

Examples of guest speaker presentations include a wide variety of topics from advice to issues making headlines, such as:

  • Alumni discuss their "real world" experiences and offer advice to job seekers.
  • "HMO's: Are they a threat to the quality of health care? An economic perspective."
  • "The Russian economy: Challenges to the West."
  • "Ethics and Economics: The buying and selling of human organs."
  • "The economics of dairy farming in Massachusetts."
