Chapter Nine: Looking Ahead
This final chapter contains a summation of trends, programs, and traditions established over the first forty-six years of UMass Dartmouth. Growth over the next five years will most naturally be in those programs and initiatives that have proven successful in the past. It reviews the school's signature programs in Marine Sciences and Portuguese studies, as well as long-standing programs in engineering and technology, and the arts and design, which have deep roots in the predecessor schools (NBIT, BDCT, and Swain). The centrality of the "Rudolph" campus is again emphasized, as is the continuation of long-range planning and the current goals of achieving close to 20% graduate enrollment within a total student body of 10,000 by 2010.
